Rebecca Thoms Commits to Marquette University's Army ROTC Program

Rebecca Thoms, a freshman in the College of Health Sciences from Manitowoc, WI, is one of 18 new cadets who will be contracted into the Marquette University Army ROTC on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11.

The cadets will affirm their intentions to become officers in the United States Army by reciting the Army Cadet Oath. This year's class includes 14 Marquette students along with two students from UW-Milwaukee and one student each from Concordia University Wisconsin and Carroll University.

The Marquette Army ROTC will also honor those who have served in the armed forces and recognize the exemplary service of Col. Mark E. Mitchell, a Marquette University ROTC alumnus and recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross.

ROTC is a college-based program, that trains students to be officers in a branch of the U.S. military. Designed as a college elective, the program focuses on leadership development, problem solving, strategic planning and professional ethics. Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC programs are available at Marquette, which accepts cadets from Alverno College, Carroll University, Carthage College, Concordia University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Parkside.
