Derek Merten Elected to Marquette University Student Government

2011 Nov 11

Derek Merten, a senior accounting and marketing double major from Slinger, Wis., is the program vice president of Marquette University Student Government for the 2011-12 school year. Merten is one of six students elected to the executive board of MUSG, which is responsible for acting as the primary student voice of the Marquette community.

MUSG is a student-run organization that works to identify, understand and actively address and represent the needs, concerns and interests of students through acts of leadership and service.

This organization consists of five departments, which include the executive council, the program board, the financial department, the communication department and the senate. Each of these departments is headed by a vice president, chosen on their ability to effectively serve the student population.

As the head of the program board, Merten is in charge of planning all MUSG events throughout the academic year. Merten, who was previously MUSG's special events co-commissioner, is also a member of the Beta Alpha Psi fraternity. In fall 2012, Merten will begin working for KPMG as an audit associate.
