Arica Vanboxtel to Attend National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference

2012 Jul 24

Arica Vanboxtel of Freedom, WI has been chosen as one of ten students from Marquette University to attend the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. from July 25 to 29. Vanboxtel, pursuing a degree in Corporate Communication, is a student leader for Marquette University Student Government.

More than 300 students and professionals from Jesuit institutions across the nation will attend the conference. Over the course of the five days, attendees will participate in a series of leadership sessions, excursions and speaking events centered on the theme, "Live the Mission."

The students will participate in workshops, social activities, small group discussions and opening and closing banquets. The conference ends with a day focused on service with students and staff volunteering at different Worcester area organizations. NJSLC gives students a unique opportunity to learn about their specific leadership position and meet students from across the country who have similar positions. It allows students to bond with their leadership team from their university and also meet and get to know hundreds of other students.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the co-curricular cornerstones of the College of the Holy Cross: reflective habits, community and citizenship, cura personalis (care for the entire person) and multicultural competency. Events for the conference are designed around these cornerstones and include a program of motivational speakers including Rev. James Martin, S.J., Jesuit priest, culture editor of America magazine and bestselling author of "The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything" and "My Life with the Saints"; Michael Miller, leadership trainer, consultant and motivational speaker; and Shiva Subbaraman, from Georgetown University.
