Aaron Ledesma Part of The Marquette Tribune's New Leadership for 2011-'12 School Year

2011 Oct 12

Marquette University's official campus newspaper, The Marquette Tribune, has announced its new editor-in-chief and leadership team for the 2011-'12 school year. The paper is entirely student-run. Led by new editor-in-chief Matthew Reddin and a team of nine accompanying editors, the Tribune will continue to publish bi-weekly issues on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Aaron Ledesma, a sophomore from Houston, majoring in advertising, is Photo Editor. Ledesma supervises photographers, takes photos for both print and online use, and edits all photos.

The Marquette Tribune has been Marquette's official campus newspaper since 1916. It has won dozens of regional and national awards for excellence. Most recently, the Tribune won the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) national award for "Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper" for the 2010-'11 school year. SPJ honors the best in student journalism by presenting Mark of Excellence Awards to outstanding collegiate publications annually. The Tribune also won the Associate Collegiate Press' "Best in Show" award in 2010 for its quarterly tabloid.

"This year, our goal at the Marquette Tribune is to start expanding our coverage into new frontiers online. We've recently launched "Hitting the Marq," an arts blog, and "Paint Touches," a sports blog. Our editorial and reporting roles now come with the additional job of ensuring that our physical print stories get translated effectively to a solid online platform," Reddin said.

The Tribune's recently revamped website features online articles, podcasts, blogs and video posts that are updated daily.

"Despite being declared best non-daily newspaper in the country, our editors are determined to be even better this year. This is an incredibly exciting year for the newspaper as we plan to build on earlier success by expanding our efforts, especially online." said Stephen Byers, assistant professor of journalism in the Deiderich College of Communication and the Tribune's adviser.
